Summary

In Chapter 8, Ani returns to the narration of her high school experiences. She was allowed to continue eating with the popular kids because of Dean and Hilary. Ani was willing to do anything it took to remain friends with Hilary, including rewriting Hilary’s paper for English so that Hilary would get a good grade. Ani worked hard to get back into Olivia’s good graces as well. She was happy and believed she was making progress when Hilary invited her to a sleepover at Olivia’s house.

As Ani is describing the house in which Olivia and her parents lived, she also mentions that Olivia’s father was abusive to Olivia. Olivia often had bruises as proof of her father’s temper.
