Harvey and Mark are splitting rocks, and Harvey notes that someone has figured the necessary caloric intake for those working at this manual labor, but that his stomach doesn't think it's enough. Alice Cox arrives, summoning Harvey to Jellison's house. There he finds a meeting that includes the major and police chief, as well as George Christopher. Al Hardy tells them that the current supplies and what's being planted should be sufficient to make the winter. The other purpose of the meeting is to discuss Harvey's plan to go "Outside" on a salvage expedition.
