In a deserted spot in the Santa Monica Mountains, Frank, Mark, and Joanna agree that they'll have no lights that night so that they won't risk alerting someone to their presence. They've arrived on three motorcycles, and though Mark continues to say that it's "a drill," they're awake the following morning when the comet hits. Frank lays all three of the bikes on their sides so that they won't fall when the earthquakes hit, then all three get into their sleeping bags in an open space and wait. Soon, the mountains "begin to dance."
