Summary
In Chapter 45, Mamah arrives in Chicago and buys two boxes of candy. She goes to the house in Oak Park. Lizzie does not answer her apartment door. Mamah summons the courage and knocks on the door of the house. Elinor answers. She tells her that she is looking for Lizzie and is told that she was just there half an hour ago. Martha is with her father and John had a baseball game. Mamah thanks her for how good she has been to the children. She says she has bought candy for them and asks to leave them in their rooms.
