Hanka Kaudersova (Skinny, Lovely Green Eyes)
Hanka, most commonly referred to as Skinny, but also sometimes known as Lovely Green Eyes, is the novel's main protagonist. She is a 15 year old Jewish girl from Prague, who has been captured by the Germans, along with her family, and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau, via Terezin. Upon arriving at Auschwitz-Birkenau, Skinny's brother, Ramon is sent to the gas chambers, her father kills himself on the electrified fence, and her mother is later selected to be sent to the gas chambers as well. She works as a cleaner in the office of a doctor and is selected to become a field prostitute, rather than be sent to the gas chambers herself, following the doctor's transfer to the front.
