Atticus Turner
Atticus Turner is a 22-year-old black man, a veteran of the Korean War. He is a lover of genre fiction, despite the racist undertones that appear in many classic works of science fiction and fantasy. He works as an exploratory agent for the Safe Negro Travel Guide. He returns to his home city of Chicago after receiving a letter from his father, Montrose, about a mysterious birthright in the town of Ardham, Massachusetts. Atticus goes to Ardham, where he learns that he is descended on his mother’s side from an escaped slave woman and Titus Braithwhite, a long-dead white industrialist. Because Titus Braithwhite had supernatural powers and founded a magical order, Atticus may have supernatural powers as well.
