Summary

In Chapter 16, Dr. L. is furious that Elsie did not get the job. He encourages Elsie to do more research instead of teaching, which annoys Elsie since she cannot afford to do so. When Elsie suggests she join an experimentalist’s team, Dr. L. is against it. She realizes he probably never told her about all the job offers she got.

Elsie gets her formal rejection from MIT on Wednesday. Monica calls to check in. Elsie considers telling Monica off for involving her in a fake hiring process but instead only thanks her. Greg emails Elsie to ask her to lunch. He says Jack told her she is a physicist and about the job. Cece interrupts Elsie to tell her that Kirk, Cece’s fake-boyfriend whom she has feelings for, is a rich scientist who can surely hire Elsie for something or other...
