June 21 - July 18 Summary

June 21 marks the summer solstice and Stargirl is eager to celebrate this day with her best friend, Dootsie. Dootsie sleeps over the night before and Stargirl wakes her at 4:00 in the morning. The two girls walk out to the woods to watch the sunrise on what will be the longest day in the calendar year. The joy on Dootsie's face as she witnessed the sky turn from black to blue to gold stays with Dootsie for the rest of the week. The other unexpected bright spot in Dootsie's week is a letter from Archie, one of her friends from back home. Archie is an old man who smokes a cherry wood tobacco pipe. Stargirl comments on how Archie hadn't like Leo because Leo wanted Stargirl to call herself by her proper name, Susan. He didn't love Stargirl's creative energy...
