April 23 - June 28 Summary

Stargirl takes Dootsie to the Dogwood Festival at Beamus Park. The girls pass the day people-watching and stuffing their faces with carnival food. At one point, Stargirl sees the boy from the dumpster stealing food from a concession stand. Stargirl is about to confront him when a fight breaks out nearby. Two kids wrestle in the dirt, kicking and punching each other. When the fight is broken up, Stargirl is not surprised to see that one of the fighters is Alvina. Alvina is cursing and threatening the blond boy she had been fighting, when Stargirl catches a glimpse of Alvina's fingers. One fingernail has been grown out and is painted in pink, glittery polish. She only sees the nail for a second before it is curled back up into a fist, but nevertheless, the image stays with her. When...
