Summary
Part Three opens with a letter from Joan on September 3rd, 1964 as she says that neither she nor Mateo has forgotten Imogen's unexpected visit. She is happy that she feels safe with Mateo and loves his character without needing him to protect her. He helps her through the numerous things happening around the world while also sharing much of his knowledge with her. She mentions their spontaneous drive to Coachella Valley and admits she is surprised that Imogen is older than Joan's mother because she sees Imogen as a close sister. She recalls Imogen saying that young people often think they know who they are and Joan now understands that life is better when one does not commit to certainties.
On September 12th, 1964, Imogen raves about everything she did in L.A and thanks Joan and Mateo for allowing her to impress...
