Summary

In Chapter 16, “Subthalamic Nucleus: Interruptions,” Bee wakes from a nap in the car to a dead raccoon on the roadside. She starts crying, as she does every time she sees roadkill. When Levi comforts her, Bee thanks him for “babysitting [her] feelings” all weekend (212). She admits that seeing Tim felt freeing.

Throughout the rest of the ride, they reminisce about grad school. For each of Bee’s memories of Levi’s unkindness, Levi has an explanation. Just as he is confessing that has always liked her, Boris calls, demanding they report to his office immediately. At the office, Boris tells them he caught Kaylee and Rocío having sex on Bee’s desk. He promises to excuse the incident if they behave themselves.
