Summary
Cal is king in The Restaurant – a hustler who originally comes from Memphis. He is particular about the way people are treated and served when they come in, and Marie soon learns to do things his way. Cal works in a bank during the day as well – a job he’d been given through one of the high-rollers he served.
In the beginning, The Restaurant was Marie’s entire life. She’d run away from her husband and daughter Ana, and she quickly learns that Cal’s way is the right way. He taught her that she had to care if she wanted to do a good job, and no matter what else you do, you have to treat people as though they mattered.
