Summary
In Chapter 1, When Yasmin was growing up, sex was never discussed in the Ghorami household. Even when Yasmin began menstruating, all her mother did was give her a package of sanitary napkins and instruct her not to touch the Quran while she was bleeding.
At age 26, Yasmin, who was studying to be a doctor, learned about sex on her own. She was engaged to Joe Sanderson, also a doctor. Her parents, Shaokat and Anisah liked Joe, but Yasmin was nervous because her parents were going to meet Joe’s mother, Harriet, for the first time the following night.
