Summary
Introduction – The introduction is written by film writer and director Patty Jenkins, who speaks of her reaction to the 2016 Pulse nightclub shootings in terms of her experience writing and directing the film “Monster.” That film, she writes was the story of Aileen Wuornos, a serial killer of men convicted of her crimes and executed in 2002. Jenkins describes Wuornos as having a deeply troubled childhood and adolescence, with part of that trouble being considered, and treated, as an outcast because of her same-gender sexual orientation. Jenkins comments that the Pulse shooting reminded her of Wuornos for two reasons.
