True Crime
The novel explores the role between consumers and writers of true crime and their subject matter. While many novels have been written about true crime, and our pop culture is full of true crime documentaries, films, and television shows, and even songs—the role between true crime and its creators and readers is one that Phoebe is studying for her doctorate in North Carolina.
Phoebe’s dissertation is on the relationship between author and subject in true crime, and she spends her whole life thinking about this question.
