Point of View
The novel is narrated in first-person past by the main character, Phoebe. Phoebe has a unique and interesting voice that makes the story shine. While this is structurally a simple romance that follows all the standard tropes in terms of plot, the voice is distinct because of Phoebe’s obsession with true crime. Phoebe loves true crime so much that she is even writing a dissertation on the literary genre for her PhD in graduate school. She spends all of her time listening to podcasts about murders or reading books about famous serial killers. Because of this, Phoebe is constantly contemplating her likelihood of being murdered and the potential murderousness of all those around her.
