Ge Weilong - "Aloeswood Incense"
Ge Weilong is the estranged niece of Aunt Liang. Weilong goes to her aunt in hopes that her aunt will pay for her to stay in school in Hong Kong. Weilong’s family is moving back to Shanghai. Weilong fears from the beginning of her relationship that she faces the danger of falling into a bad situation, but she pushes forward anyway.
At the end of the story, Weilong has married George, a man who stands to inherit no money from his family. George agrees to marry Weilong only because she goes into business with her aunt as a prostitute or call girl in order to keep George happy financially. At a New Year’s festival, Weilong sees girls who have been forced into prostitution. A gang of men approaches those girls and Weilong. George wonders out loud what the men thought they were...
