Summary
In Chapter 24, the next morning, Lina took her mother’s journal to the tower to which Howard had taken Hadley. She hoped to find answers at the top of the tower. She asked her mother out loud why she had sent her to Italy. Receiving no answer, Lina felt even more lonely.
Lina looked up in time to see the sun starting to rise at the same time she felt as if some had pushed the word “look” (330) into her brain. As she watched, she realized that she would never get to stop missing her mother, but there would come a day when things would be all right. Lina knew it was time to finish the journal.
Hadley explained in her next journal entry that the Italian government gave all rights to the father of a child. She knew she had to go...
