Summary

In Chapter 5, one of the first things that Lina saw when she opened her mother’s journal was a picture of Hadley and Howard together. Lina noticed that her mother looked as if she had been swept off her feet. She wondered again why her mother had never told her about Howard. Feeling she was not ready to read the journal, Lina put it in the drawer of her bedside table.

Lina headed out the back gate for her run. She had just reached the top of the hill when she saw a boy playing with a soccer ball.
