Summary

Part 2 is titled To Spain with the Boys and takes place from March – May 1937. Chapter 10 opens with Martha working in New York while Ernest sails to Paris. Under Ernest’s instruction, Martha is to find Sidney Franklin when she arrives in Paris. After Martha gets to Paris, she studies maps and talks to locals about how to get into Spain. Martha knows that what she is doing is not “exactly legal” (70), but sneaks into Spain anyway. In Barcelona, Martha gets a hotel room and wakes the next morning to discover that she slept through a bombing.

Chapter 11 continues with Martha traveling to Valencia where she meets Sidney Franklin. They drive through the city and see the war damage. They arrive at Hotel Florida and learn that Ernest has for to Hotel Gran Via where the correspondents meet up. Ernest is pleased to see...
