Summary

In “Navigation,” Nicolás recalls working at a taqueria, where he met a “whiteboy” (133) customer and went home with him. After they had sex, the whiteboy told Nicolás that he worked for a nonprofit that helped refugees, and that he was hoping to move up in the company, but he needed to learn Spanish to do so. Nicolás was hesitant, but agreed to give him lessons for $50 each. The whiteboy was terrible at Spanish, but kept paying for the lessons. He and Nicolás continued to grow closer, as Nicolás shared some of his background, and the whiteboy asked if he ever thought about leaving Houston. He also shared the stories of some of the refugees he met at the nonprofit, people who had suffered tremendously and risked everything to come to the United States. A few weeks later...
