Structure

The memoir is divided into three parts. Each part reflects a word in the title. As the author philosophically considers the meaning of each word, she narrates its significance in the course of her life. Part I: Lost deals with the death of her father. Part II: Found concerns her falling in love with her partner. Part III: And explores her marriage and imagined future. Throughout each section the author ruminates at length and weaves personal storytelling from periods in her life with considerations of ideas that have influenced and perturbed her. The memoir is not chronological per se, as the first part deals primarily with events that occurred after those described in Part II. Part III, however, does bring the author's story into the present.
