Summary
The third and last chapter in the memoir is titled “And”; the titular reference is the conjunction between “Lost” and “Found.” It seemingly picks up where the last chapter ends, with C’s father. Here, Schulz begins her narration by situating the reader in a time “[l]ong before C’s father was born—long before any one of us was born” (185). She describes a meteorite that fell thirty-five million years ago, toward the end of the Eocene epoch (185). From there, she provides a quick and vastly condensed history of the impact that this meteorite had, spanning millennia—an immense period of time that is almost immeasurable in scope. Schulz continues this colossal overview of the history of the earth, eventually landing at the specific spot where “one beautiful May afternoon, [she and C.] got married” (189).
