Summary
The second chapter of the memoir, titled “Found,” sees Schulz’s narration shift into a seemingly omniscient narrative voice in the first-person, as she introduces information that is presented as an impersonal historical account. “Found” begins with the story of an eleven-year-old child named Billy, who was “almost hit by a falling star” (79). The narrator introduces the reader to Billy’s playmate Roger then begins to describe the environment in which Billy and Roger lead their daily lives, a place where “[t]he only thing larger than the land was the sky” (79). The narrator shifts from providing contextual information through a limited omniscient first-person point-of-view to focusing on the individual experiences of Billy during his close encounter with the meteorite.
