Summary
In Chapter 34, Philip introduces Lorna to a group gathered for her art lecture, saying she was “sweet, frivolous little Lorna” when he met her in college. She remains annoyed throughout her lecture. Afterward, Philip tells Lorna he has always loved her and that he is searching for a wife. He talks about the requirements of the role, considering his position in the church. She promises to think about it but suddenly realizes the idea of living out her life in America seems bleak. Over the next few weeks, they have dinner together a few times. Her own social circle begins to expand, partly due to Julie showing up at her get-together with the English dignitary.
