Mexico
Mexico is where the majority of the novella takes place. It is where the narrator lives and works. The narrator sees the dwarf on the street and walks through the different parks in the city. Since the narrator spends so much time with her thoughts, the setting reads more as a backdrop.
Chicago
Chicago is where the narrator travels to for a book fair. She stays in the apartment of a young woman who is traveling. She does not spend much time in Chicago.
The Apartment
The apartment is where the narrator lives with Jonas in Mexico. The narrator thinks that the apartment is too big for her if her relationship with Jonas does not work out. It is where Jonas is expected to return at the conclusion of the novella.
