The Narrator
The narrator is an unnamed 30-year-old woman living in Mexico. She is a writer who is in a relationship with Jonás. While they live together, Jonás has traveled to Spain to deal with his grief following the death of his mother. Prior to meeting Jonás, the narrator suffered an unidentified accident which nearly ended her life.
During Jonás’s absence, the narrator keeps a notebook of her thoughts, which serves as the novella. She longs for Jonás to return, comparing herself to Penelope waiting for Odysseus in The Odyssey.
