The elevator in Will’s apartment building represents the trapped nature of Will’s life. As Will enters the elevator and descends to the ground floor, he experiences a sense of discomfort within the small space, especially as people whom he had believed to be dead join him in the elevator and make him feel anxious about seeking out revenge on Carlson Riggs. This distressing feeling echoes Will’s internal feeling of uncertainty about following The Rules and conforming to the expectations of those in his neighborhood despite the fact that the norms stand at odds with his personal values.
