Point of View
The book is written from third person point of view but is limited almost exclusively to what Marnie knows. This is necessary for the successful introduction of the characters and the flow of the story. While it can be argued that it's overly limiting to not have knowledge of what others are doing and thinking, there would be less suspense for the reader. The fact that the point of view is limited actually helps the story flow in this instance. The exceptions to the limited point of view are designed to give the reader a look at what Law is feeling. For example, he tells Marnie that he's going to tell her a "bedtime story." He tells the story of a beautiful princess who puts a curse on the prince so that he doesn't want any other woman.
