Summary

In Part 3, Chapter 1, Laura encourages Nancy to take daily walks to lose weight. When Laura is not with her, Nancy struggles to motivate herself to go alone. One morning, she lies in the living room imagining the future instead of walking. She guesses Jim will want to live above his pub when they marry as she has not told him about her plans for the bungalow. Finally, she goes for a walk. She runs into a friend who suggests she visit Miss Metcalfe about a dress for Miriam’s wedding. Nancy calls her later and sets up a trip to Dublin. Later, she tells Jim about the trip and he offers to drive her as he does business in Dublin each week.
