Kensington, Philadelphia is the city where Mickey works as a patrol officer with the police. She is assigned to the 24th district, the part of the city where her sister works as a prostitute to buy drugs to feed her addiction. Mickey likes the fact that she can keep an eye on her sister while she is on patrol. The majority of the action of the novel takes place in the 24th district as Mickey searches for her sister and also tries to determine who is killing the women working in that area.
