Summary
In "Chapter 1: Now," Elizabeth Davenport wakes up excited on the anniversary of her first kiss with Tom. Their tradition began 50 years ago. Each year, Tom leaves a blue crocus on her doorstep with a note attached. The note always describes something Tom wishes they could do together. Little gifts often accompany these wishes. On this day, however, Elizabeth finds nothing. Elizabeth regrets that she and Tom could never be together, since he has a wife and because she is technically married, although she lives alone with her cat, Cookie.
Elizabeth wakes up in the middle of the night to see her father running out the house in his pajamas in "Chapter 2: Then."
