Chapters 21 and Epilogue Summary
In Chapter 21, Barbara explains to Marcus that even though the jail has been raided, he and the other people being held there are still under arrest. She does tell him, though that the governor of California had thrown the DHS out of the state. The two search the jail and finally find Darryl and Ange in a high security area of the base. It takes nearly 30 minutes to find the correct codes to open the doors of Ange and Darryl's cells. When she comes out, Ange tells them she was drugged when she wouldn't quit screaming for a lawyer. Darryl is laying naked in his cell, curled up. Darryl keeps apologizing over and over again. Marcus notes he sounds as if he is completely broken.
At court the next day, the judge grants Marcus bail even though the prosecutor...
