Summary
In Chapter 25, Mai tells about Nga's life. She has a private practice that she runs in the morning and evening. She works at a government facility in the afternoons. She makes very little money there, but this means she is “left alone so she can make private money” (188). Her husband oversees a cancer ward and spends long hours at the hospital. Their only child is studying abroad. Mai and Ut washed out their new outfits, allowing them to dry overnight. QH is annoyed she is “sacked with you two again today” (188). She has other things to do and will not be with them for the day, but reminds them not to tattle. She hires a couple of teenagers with mopeds to take Mai and Ut around the city. Mai rides with a girl named BeBe and Mai rides with a boy named Van...
