Chapter 7 Summary

Alanna attends her first council meeting and discovers that she will have a larger role in Jon's reign than she had known. Jon appoints her the King's Champion. After the council meeting, Jon tries to comfort Alanna about her new position. He also asks her again if she will marry him. They both know that he doesn't really want to anymore, but he did ask, and he can't go back on his word. Alanna tells him that he's lucky one of them has some sense, and she tells him no again. She finds a drawing of Thayet, and teases Jon about it. She tells him that she knows she wouldn't make a good queen, but that Thayet would. Jon agrees that their marriage would not work out, and they leave it at that.
