The Complications of Werewolfism
The werewolves of this story are not the same as werewolves are typically portrayed. The werewolves of this story are turned by temperature, though the process is very complex and isn't fully understood by any of the characters. Grace was bitten as a child but never turns. She was left unattended in a hot car and had a raging temperature, and it's believed this is the reason she never turned. Those who do turn do so when the weather is cold.
Cole seems to be an exception and he turns human well before any of the other wolves do so, holding on to his human form when it's cold enough that others would have turned.
