Chapters 11 through 18 Summary
In chapter eleven, Grace goes to the school nurse again. She has a fever and headache. The nurse gives her aspirin, which makes Grace feel better quickly. In chapter twelve, Cole turns to a human a great distance from Beck's house in the bitter cold. He sees a mansion nearby and finds a door unlocked. He notes that the interior looks like a scene from "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine. He goes upstairs, hoping to find clothes. Instead, he encounters Isabel. She knows immediately what he is, but not who. They are still staring at each other when Mrs. Culpepper arrives, screaming. Isabel steps in, tells her mother to stop staring and they begin screaming at each other, with Isabel saying that a doctor had warned them she might start "acting out." Isabel leads her mother to believe she'd had sex...
