Chapters 1 through 10 Summary

The prologue opens from Grace Brisbane's perspective with her explaining that it was Sam who had been a wolf the previous year and Grace's loss when he turned. This year, it's Grace who is "not firmly in my own skin."

Chapter one begins with Sam. He says that Mercy Falls, Minnesota is different to him now because he no longer turns to a wolf for the winter. Sam says that he's still trying to come to terms with the fact that he won't change into a wolf again and he's trying to build himself a new life as a boy. Sam is at his job in the bookstore, the Crooked Shelf, when Isabel Culpepper arrives.
