Relationships

One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. The two primary relationships the novel tackles are romantic relationships and relationships between friends.

Friendship is one of the primary types of relationships the novel tackles. Even though Stella knows a lot of people, they are more her acquaintances than they are her friends. Stella decides to change this during the last two weeks of high school and her life. This propels Stella to form a friendship with Ainsley. It is the one and only true friendship that Stella has before she kills herself.

The novel also touches upon romantic relationships. Daniel is the only guy Stella ever dates, kisses, and has sex with in her life.
