Destiny
Destiny becomes a major theme of this story as the Stefan changes events in Laura's life. Stefan explains that destiny always tries to right itself after a change takes place. Laura sees that herself. In one reality, she was born with a deformity caused by a drunk doctor. Stefan intercepts the doctor and Laura is later shot in the back, the bullet severing her spinal chord so that she's rendered helpless; had she lived in this state, she would have been confined to a wheelchair. If Stefan had not interfered, Laura would never have married. In one possible reality, her son Chris is killed so that he doesn't exist. Laura and her father were meant to die at the hands of a junkie, but Stefan interferes and they live. Laura's father soon dies of a heart attack. She is then an orphan but finds love and happiness with...
