Chapter 5 Summary

Laura wakes Chris and tells him that there are bad men coming for them. Though only eight, he is instantly alert and begins hurrying to prepare to leave. Laura has him gather several guns and put them in the Jeep, which is in the attached garage, then uses a dolly to move Stefan to the Jeep as well. Danny is in the vehicle when Laura runs back into the house to get her purse. There's noise on the porch and then gunshots as someone tries to break through the back door. The steel reinforcement holds but the drywall around the door gives way to the onslaught. Laura almost makes a run for the Jeep but instinct wins and she waits. She kills two men who rush into the room before she could have made it to safety, then shoots at a third, forcing...
