Corcoran Liam O'Connor
Known as Cork, he is the son of Sheriff Liam O'Connor and Colleen O'Connor. In the Prologue, Cork has just been elected sheriff of Tamarack County and he thinks back on the past. For the rest of the novel, Cork is 12 and his father is sheriff. Cork is a thoughtful young man who is not afraid of hard work. He spends a lot of his time working paper routes – one very early in the morning and another in the afternoon. The fact that he always makes his deliveries and saved money to buy his own bicycle is a sign of his work ethic and maturity.
Cork and his friend Jorge find Big John's body and Cork admits the experience causes him nightmares. He wants to help with the investigation and sets out to follow the advice of a Mide from the tribe, following “crumbs” of evidence...
