Summary
In Chapter 24, Billy, Jorge, and Cork meet up in Aurora and ride bicycles to Lightning Point. They prepare a fire and talk about their lives. Billy makes it clear his life in California is terrible. His father was promised a good job but he works only sporadically for very little money. They face overt prejudice from some who believe they are Mexican. They could barely scrape up enough money for Billy and his mom to travel back for Big John's funeral. He says he and his mother do not plan to return. Jorge talks about the prejudice he faces as well. Billy talks more, saying he misses being part of his tribe. Jorge produces a Ouija board and explains how it works. He has Billy talk to Big John, and the planchette begins to move under the boys' hands. They have trouble understanding...
