Part 1, Chapters 6-10 Summary
Tomas begins breaking his own rules of bachelorhood by sharing the bed with Tereza in sleep. This makes him conclude that one may desire many women sexually, but there are few that a man can simply share sleep with. Tomas is beginning to grow true feelings for Tereza. One night, Tereza has a nightmare from reading Sabina's erotic letter to Tomas. Tereza realizes that she is not the only woman in Tomas's life, and it haunts her. Tomas tries to reconcile his infidelity and assure himself that he can keep both his bachelor life and Tereza. His napvety is further shown, when he hypocritically demands fidelity from Tereza. Tereza continues having vivid nightmares about Tomas's sexual exploits and feels victimized during each episode.
