Part Two: Chapters 5 - 7 Summary
On the first of grandfather Josef's five predicted terrible days in Jimmy's life, his mother prepares all of his favorite dishes. He eats, endures the warnings from his family who recommend he stay home and stay safe, and Grandma Rowena who thinks up every possible disaster that can befall him, along with a great many that are simply too far fetched. He reads for a while and then in keeping with his baker's schedule, goes to bed and sleeps until 1:30 p.m. He drives his Shelby Z into town to run errands. He goes into the bank first to cash his cheque, but not before being momentarily paralyzed by fear outside. A stranger snaps him out of it by inquiring as to whether or not he is OK. Embarrassed, he makes excuses before continuing his errands, but...
