Miho's Shop

In "A First-Rate Material," Nana visits Miho's shop in order to buy furniture and furnishings for hers and Naoki's new home together. The night before her visit, Naoki gives her an ultimatum. He insists that if she orders anything made from human materials while at the shop, he will end their engagement. While at the shop, Nana informs Miho that she will take nothing made from human parts. Although shocked and confused, Miho accommodates Nana's request. While Miho draws up Nana's order, Nana peruses the shop. Every object she sees made from human hair, human bone, or human nails moves her. The objects are not only beautiful, but feel sacred to Nana. Although she admires and even covets these objects, while at the shop, she realizes that she will keep all such object out of her life in order to be with Naoki.
