Summary
Edythe and Beau watch a movie in biology class in “Chapter 11: Complications.” They both feel an intense attraction to one another when the lights turn off. In gym class, McKayla confronts Beau about seeing Edythe. Beau is awkward about it. Edythe drives Beau home after school. She picks him up again the next morning and asks him questions about his favorite movies and books. They feel an almost electric current between them again in biology class when the lights go out. After school, Edythe and Beau sit on the steps of Charlie’s house until nightfall while Edythe asks him detailed questions about his home in Phoenix. Forgetting himself, Beau leans in for a kiss. Edythe whips her head around, anticipating the car that pulls up outside Beau’s house. It is Jules and her mother Bonnie Black, followed by Charlie’s car...
