Chapters Seventeen and Eighteen Summary and Analysis
In Chapter Seventeen, Damien again writes from jail. His tone in these entries is nostalgic and longing for the life he knew as a young boy. At the same time, he notes that the people of West Memphis are terribly cruel to people who stand out. He indicates he has learned it is best to shuffle along with the others and do nothing to stand out. He describes the south as a place where morality and dreams are drowned out by greed and hatred.
