Chapters Fifteen and Sixteen Summary and Analysis
In Chapter Fifteen, Damien switches back to his memories of his time in jail. He tells of a tour of kids being brought through in an attempt to scare them. Damien debates whether or not the worst offenders are really on Death Row. He believes the punishment is based on the amount of publicity that a crime gets with many of the worst offenders sentenced to lighter jail times just because their crimes didn't make the paper. Damien hates the tours because of the way people stand around and stare at him as if he is on display. He has learned to retreat to other places in his mind to avoid the disgust that he feels during these visits. He describes himself as sometimes being a ghost in his own body.
