Chapters Five and Six Summary and Analysis
In Chapter Five, Damien writes about the people that he has met because of his time in prison and the attempt to appeal his case. He gets letters from those who want to tell him their story as well as from those who hate him. He's realized that those writing these hate filled letters are generally those who don't know the details of his case and don't bother to become educated. He says that he has gotten far more supportive letters than hate mail through his time in prison. Occasionally Damien will receive a letter that he calls a "drive-by preaching." This is usually an envelope filled with religious tracts which he believes has been sent in a totally different spirit than the one intended by Jesus.
